Is this your first visit to Raise the Gaze?
A little about me: I reside in Southwestern Ontario with my wife, May, and serve as a pastor in a fine rural community. I'm gratefully proud of our three sons and their wives and the six grandchildren they've 'made' for us!
The picture above was taken of my wife and me at my late mother's 90th birthday in the UK. Apart from Yours Truly shedding the remnant of his beard, since then, we look pretty much the same nowadays... Well, mebbe not quite so pretty, eh?
My writing motto is "Raise the Gaze," and writing pursuits include a weekly inspirational column in our community newspaper The Guide-Advocate, plus short stories, short biographical sketches, and biblical character sketches. Also, I occasionally write poetry, and compose worship and praise songs.
By "Raise the Gaze," I hope that my writing efforts will in some measure elevate the reader's focus to higher things: say, from the mundane to the marvellous, from the material to the spiritual, from the temporal to the eternal, from the secular to the sacred - that sort of thing. I find it helpful to lift one's head from the feeding trough of life, and see where the provision comes from, and to be grateful for the people involved in bringing the good things of life to us, and above all to be thankful to The Source of all that's good.
Although ‘in-house’ writing has necessarily been part of my pastoral scene over the years, my interest in developing writing skills has intensified in recent times. I'm delighted to have been a member of Canada’s The Word Guild (TWG) since 2005. The warm collegial sharing between a wide range of experience levels, from aspiring to seasoned writers, allows for growth and learning for all, and is extremely valuable and appreciated.
